The Rundown: A city in turmoil needs the help of its presumed dead protector.

The former police commissioner decides to head to his old headquarters to light the signal that used to summon the protector of the city known as the Crimson Justice. Unfortunately, his foray into nostalgia leads to his murder at the hands of a former villain thought long dead.
The next day, restaurant owner John Redding gets an earful from a customer that remembers the good old days when heroes protected the city. With many of them dead or worse, John learns about the death of the former commissioner and returns home to find a letter from the dead man pleading with him to return as Crimson Justice.
The Story: Tieri crafts a thrilling, intense and entertaining noir in this first issue. It establishes the characters, stakes and emotional beats well while giving an engaging look at the world the characters inhabit. This first issue definitely grabbed my attention and I look forward to seeing both the mysteries of the past unfold as well as the consequences for John in trying to return to his old life.
The Art: Miranda delivers brilliantly detailed and atmospheric art throughout the issue. The visual style beautifully engages the reader and captures the mood and tone of the story.
